Do people prefer manual or electric wheelchairs?
As a caregiver, is power wheelchair all the way, baby!
On days when I have to maneuver hills or steep sidewalks, I wish I had a Power chair. Power chairs are better because you're not out of breath by the time you reach the end of the block. You're pushing your body weight plus the weight of the chair. So it's not as easy as many of us makes it look. It takes a lot to get around.
So many of us prefer power chairs but if you want your insurance to pay for it, you have to prove that you have reduced upper body strength for one. Or else, it comes out of your own pocket. Sorry to say. So yeah, I'd love a power chair and would only use the manual if I needed to.
